Odd Man Out (1947)
Odd Man Out starring James Mason is noted for its depiction of the Crown Liquor Saloon in Belfast. The Victorian pub that dates back to 1826 still exists and its lavish interior with famous 'boothes' is still intact.
Though almost none of the characters manage to master a Belfast - or even a northern Irish accent - the film-noir tells the story of an IRA man on the run and wounded after a robbery.
Northumberland Street on the Shankill is mentioned in the script, as is Queen's Bridge, Shaftesbury Square and Bedford Street.
Though identical to the interior of the Crown Bar on Belfast's Great Victoria Street, the bar scenes were filmed on a studio set in England. However the outside of the bar is shot as well as various streets in towntown Belfast, including around the city hall.
