QUARRYING
The demand for quarried aggregates is enormous. Stone is an essential component used in the construction of homes, factories, schools, hospitals and shopping centres. Road, railways, airport and port construction consumes large volumes of aggregates in every form, as does the ongoing forestry and rural development. However it is essential that development must not exhaust natures ability to absorb change.
Reclamation of sites: The Belfast Hills Partnership is working in conjunction with QPANI's Biodiversity Officer to advise in the enhancement and restoration of quarries throughout the Hills. We hope that sensitive restoration will be of benefit both to local communities and wildlife.
