Slievenacloy - Get Healthy!

Slievenacloy Nature Reserve has a number of way marked walking routes that are perfect as part of a healthy walking programme. 

The site also has a picnic area and information signs that will tell you about the history and biodiversity of the site.

Way-marked Walking Routes

The Priest's Hill walk: this 1.4 mile trail will lead you around some of the highest points on the nature reserve, offering stunning views over the landscape stretching to the Mourne Mountains. (Approximately 1 hour)

Grade- 1st section, from farm house to viewpoint 1 is easy access (0.3 miles).  However due to weathering of the path the surface is not entirely smooth.

Grade: Easy Access  

The 2nd section (1.1 miles) is moderate as there is no obvious trail, although there are markers at various points along the walk.

Grade: Moderate 

The Stoneyford walk: this 1.5 mile walk leads down the hill and across the Flowbog Road to discover one of Slievenacloy's sites of archaeological interest- the earth ring. (Approximately 2 hours).

Grade: Leisurely 

The Ballycollin walk: this 1.2 mile walk heads off into the east of the nature reserve, into rush pasture and through some great examples of species-rich grassland. (Approximately 1 hour 15 mins).

Grade: Leisurely

Access to the site:

There is a small car park off the Flowbog Road entrance, however the gates are normally kept locked. You are advised to park by the gate on the Flowbog Road and walk up the gravel road to get to the starting point of the walks. 

Opening of the gate can be obtained by prior arrangement with the warden, so if you wish to use wheelchairs or buggies on the site you are advised to contact the Ulster Wildlife Trust. Just phone 028 4483 0282.
