Treasure trail booty is claimed!

Belfast Hills Partnership Cave Hill Treasure Trail

The lucky trio won goody bags and all said they were delighted to have taken part in the event which ran all through last summer.

Prizes included outdoor walking equipment, day sacks, walking sticks and clothing. The winners also picked up £50, £25 and £15 vouchers for Cotswold Outdoor, Belfast.

Mr Thorton who scooped the prized silver acorn, said he thoroughly enjoyed his day treasure hunting on Cave Hill.

Second place Mr Belshaw thanked the Partnership for putting on the competition, adding his children aged 11 to four had loved the event.

"The Belshaw family are delighted to have come second in your competition. The six of us - mum and dad - and four youngsters had a very enjoyable day doing the hunt," he said.

The treasure trail opened a whole new world of exploration and fun for families and groups that took up the challenge.

The free event, complete with treasure trail maps, was the brainchild of the Belfast Hills Partnership and was funded by Belfast City Council.

The trail that required treasure seekers to solve clues around Cave Hill and then submit their answers online, drew people from all over Ireland and Britain.

People from Spain, Germany, the Netherlands and France also took part.

Jim Bradley of the Partnership said he was "overwhelmed at the popularity of the treasure trail" and hoped to repeat a search for booty next summer.
