Though most of our events have no admission charge, we gratefully accept any donation to the charity to help improve, manage and preserve the Belfast Hills. 
 

Points to remember for your safety

Everyone is welcome to our events but please bear these important points in mind:

·        All children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult

·        Suitable clothing and footwear should be worn

·        Dogs are allowed on some walks but only on a lead

·        Parts of some walks can be steep or difficult

Belfast Castle family walk
Come to see primroses growing around Belfast Castle estate. Then choose to explore the castle or play in the Adventurous Playground. Admission charge applies to playground. This event is suitable for children.

Hazelwood Spring Walk

Meet at the Belfast Zoo car park.Enjoy a sea of bluebells and woodland flowers while discovering some fascinating wildlife at this Area of Scientific Interest on Cave Hill.Price: Adult £2, Child £1, Friends of the Belfast Hills Free.

Northern Ireland Hospice Big Walk Week

Step out and make a difference by joining the Northern Ireland Hospice's Big Walk Week at Belfast Castle. The hospice children's facility at Horizon House is situated just below the slopes of Cave Hill. By taking part you will help this local charity care for people living with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions.

Belfast Hills Heritage Tour

Learn about the rich heritage of the Belfast Hills by bus and on foot.  Find out about the people who lived in the hills long ago and the wildlife habitats they helped to shape.

Tour includes a stop off for scones and tea/coffee.  Bring a pack lunch and wear warm clothing and sturdy footwear. Price: Adult £16, Senior Citizen £15, Child £10.  Friends of the Belfast Hills £12.  Booking is essential as places are limited.

Divis to Dixon Fundraising 10 mile challenge walk

Hike from Divis and the Black Mountain to Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park to raise money to protect and manage the Belfast Hills.  Bring a packed lunch, wear warm clothing and strudy walking shoes.  Booking is essential.  Not suitable for Children under age 12 years.

Aliens Volunteering Day!

Meet at Colin Glen Forest Park Centre car park.

Help control the spread of Himalayan Balsam along the ColinGlenRiver. Give a hand in the battle against this invasive species that threatens to push out native plants and wildlife. 

Event is run jointly with the Belfast Hills Partnership and Colin Glen Trust and involves light manual work. Please ensure you wear appropriate footwear and clothing.

Sights and Sounds of Summer at Slievenacloy Nature Reserve

Experience the sights and sounds of Slievenacloy at its peak this Father's Day on a ramble around this special site. Hear the beauty of bird songs, see the colourful blooms or orchids and marvel on the array of butterflies on the wing. If its a clear day, awesome panoramic views of Northern Ireland await you! Biodiversity Day at Belfast Zoo

Part of a week-long series of events at the zoo. Come along and see what Belfast Zoo and its partners are doing for our local native species. Explore the zoo including the ‘Secret Zoo’ of native wildlife. Normal zoo admission charges apply.

Go ‘Roman’ ‘Round the Hill Activity Day

All roads lead to Cave Hill for an action-packed day out. Try archery, conquer the skill of orienteering, explore Hadrian’s climbing wall and go ‘Roman’ on our geocaching challenge. Get your own little Caesars and Cleopatras in fancy dress for the big invasion of the bouncy castle. Centurion walks at 11am and 2pm from BelfastCastle car park. Prizes given for best-dressed Romans using recycled materials and some imagination.

This free event is held in association with Belfast City Council.

Midsummer Evening Walk at Carnmoney Hill

Knockenagh Avenue entrance (beside the play park).

Take a stroll around this fantastic site and see glorious wildlife and nature. Fantastic views of Cave Hill can be seen as well as theArdsPeninsula and Belfast Lough.

An evening at the Gamekeeper’s Cottage

Fossil Hunt at Colin Glen

There is more to Colin Glen than just a Forest Park!  Join our experienced Park Ranger as he tells the geological history of Colin Glen and the Belfast Hills. Go on a fossil finding expedition in the park to search for the remains of ancient creatures – who knows what you might discover!
