    The Belfast Hills have majored in a university challenge for Belfast students. Queen's University undergraduates took on an environmental challenge commissioned by the Belfast Hills Partnership to explore how quarries in the hills could be restored.

    The Belfast Hills Partnership has been awarded a massive £1.8 million funding boost - heralding a new dawn for the Belfast Hills. The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has approved a £1.15 million Landscape Partnership Scheme (LPS) in the Belfast Hills. A host of organisations - including the NI Environmental Agency, the Rural Development Programme and Belfast, Lisburn, Newtownabbey and Antrim councils - have provided further funding.

    Congratulations to three lucky winners of our Cave Hill silver acorn treasure hunt. Bangor man Paul Thornton (pictured left receiving his prize from Partnership manager Jim Bradley), the Belshaw family from Lisburn and Armagh's Sharyon Todd came first, second and third respectively after being picked out of hundreds of clever treasure hunters who solved all the clues.

    The drive to shed those pounds is on and we'll be helping you get in shape for 2012 with our calorie killer walk on Carnmoney Hill this Saturday. Come along to Knockenagh Avenue, Newtownabbey at 10am and get walking for health this year! Please be aware that due to days of rain, Carnmoney Hill is mucky underfoot. Only people with proper walking boots will be allowed to take part.

    As Belfast tunes up to host the MTV European Music Awards, the Belfast Hills Partnership is presenting an event that features the biggest rock icon in the city – Cave Hill. The mega rock that has stood the test of time will be going ‘Gaga’ – with walkers exploring the nuts on Hazelwood nature reserve on its lower slopes, before ascending the famed cliff tops of Napoleon’s Nose and McArt’s Fort.

    Our Big Dig excavation at Ballyaghagan was an outstanding success and unearthed some very interesting artifacts that are currently being analysed by archaeologists. Hundreds of people saw the Big Dig and a big well done goes to the schools and groups who took part!
