Some 50 walkers turned out for what became a wonderful day’s walking around Divis and the Black Mountain on our 2009 Divis Challenge. Despite what began as a misty morn in the Belfast Hills, the sun miraculously came out and lifted the fog revealing a glorious day with some cracking views across the north of Ireland. Led by Projects Officer Lizzy Pinkerton, walkers were treated to a tour of Divis and Black Hill which slopes across from the Black Mountain. The tour that took place on Saturday March 21, explained the walking routes and the history of some of the stone sites including an old gamekeeper’s cottage on the Hills. One woman even revealed that the tour allowed her to revisit her childhood haunts on Divis! Skylarks could be seen and the Hills were alive with the sound of birdsong. “Well done to everyone who took part in the Divis Challenge,” said Lizzy. “We hope to see many of our walkers taking part in the great events we have in store this year and we also hope they'll turn out for the Divis Mountain to Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Nature Trail fundraising walk later in the year,” she said.
